Informational Meetings For New Rowers

Girls interested in rowing should plan to attend the informational meeting after school on Wednesday, September 1st at 1:15pm. The meeting will be held in room 462 on the freshmen campus. Contact Coach Vertullo for more information: michael.vertullo@ocps.net

Guys interested in rowing should plan to attend the informational meeting on Wednesday, September 8th at 7pm. The meeting will be held in the media center at the main campus. Contact Coach Freygang for more information: wp1793@hotmail.com

All students will need to complete the sports physical to participate in practice. Completed physicals can be submitted to Elaine Judy in room 714 on the main campus or Coach Garris in room 451 on the freshmen campus. You MUST return the completed EMT card with the athletic trainers initials to your coach.

Stotesbury Champion Climbs Mt. Kilimanjaro

Its been a very productive year for Winter Park rower Lucas Zarate. To sum it up: outstanding academic performance in the IB Program, 2 seat in the F8+ that won gold at the 2010 Stotesbury Cup Regatta, and the tallest mountain in Africa.

Lucas and his family traveled to Tanzania this summer where they climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro. At 19,334 feet above sea level, Kilimanjaro is the tallest mountain in Africa. Read more about Lucas, his family, and their expedition to the top of Africa in Florida Doctor, p.14-17.

Thanks for your interest in the Winter Park High School Crew Team! As a member of Winter Park Crew, you will have the opportunity to be part of a nationally recognized athletic program. Whether you are looking to make new friends, get fit, or prepare for college, Winter Park Crew is the place for you.

Winter Park was the first high school in Florida to start a crew team and has led the state since the beginning. Recent accomplishments include seven consecutive State Championships and multiple National Championships. Only one other high school rowing program in the country has seen equal success.

Our alumni have been accepted to some of the top colleges in the country: Yale, MIT, Princeton, Cornell, Georgetown, Harvard, Boston University, University of Washington, and University of Florida, to name a few. Some of our rowers have represented their team, school, and country on the US Rowing Team. One such alumnus has won three World Championships, and will represent the US in the 2012 Olympics. Regardless of your athletic experience, you will have the opportunity to do great things as a member of the Winter Park Crew Team!

Girls interested in rowing should plan on attending a preseason meeting on September 1st. The boys meeting will be on September 8th. Announcements will be made at school with details.
